Below is some advice that I have found researching Parvo and those who can't afford a vet.

Although every case is different, you might find these helpful.

  1. If your pup is vomiting, or has diarrhea it is very important to keep him Hydrated. Pedialite (sweet kind) or Gatorade will be sufficient. If he does not want to drink, you will have to squirt it into his mouth. (gently of course) you will also need to help him keep his blood sugar level up or he will become hypoglycemic. Try to get him to lick some Vanilla yogurt or something sweet. If you can, rub some honey on his gums. He might like this, and it has the sugar that he needs. Also, a small drink of Pepto Bismol may help his tummy feel a little better so he can eat.
  2. If he does still eat even a little, finely chop a clove of garlic and put it in his food as this will help fight the Virus.
  3. If you can cook up some hamburger and rice with a little Garlic, or boil some chicken, this will be good to give him. make sure that any meat is finely chopped and thoroughly cooked.
  4. It is important to keep the pup confined to one space. do not let him roam as the Parvovirus is extremely contagious to other dogs.
  5. Clean up her feces and dilute area with 50/50 bleach and water. This is the only solution that can kill the virus around the house or outdoors. Otherwise it will survive anywhere for up to six months or more (longer in cold environments).
  6. He needs a ton of love! Depression will multiply the virus rapidly in his system. These symptoms will continue even while you are taking care of him. You have to be strong for the both of you. The virus does not have to kill your pup. Dehydration or the spread of the disease to other organs (such as the heart) is what causes death. Very few pups with Parvo who do not get medical attention or some kind of fluids right away can die within 48-72 hours. You need to get his little immune system some help.
